cheerleading?
The cheerleading tryouts at my HS are in 3 months, and i might want to join. I have never done cheerleading before. I have to be able to run 2 miles in under about 8 min. Im a horrible runner! I run ONE mile in like 10 min lol. What can i do to improve my running besides actually practicing running?I kno to stretch everyday, and i already take a tumbling class. Any tips? Thanks.
Also, i got to tumbling once a week. I practice probably like 5-10 back handsprings each class b/c the class is pretty large. Do you think i will have my backhandspring by then? Ive been practicing it since like november-december. Thanks!

Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff to become a cheerleader!!! I would say you need to practice on the running a bit just run within your neighborhood if you have a dog take the dog with you! I was a cheerleader thoughout high school i enjoyed it, because mosty i liked dancing! Just keep doing what you are doing and you got it girl!!! Good Luck!

first of all…2 miles in 8 minutes would be olympic status, so I know that’s wrong.

well the only way to improve your running is run!
second getting your back handspring takes time you should def be doing more then one class a week
Most of the girls you will be a lot more experienced then you!

For you to get your back handspring you need strength training, especially in your legs. You should practice handstand snap downs. I just got my back handspring and you really need to pop your shoulders. As for running I say go for a run everyday or so and time yourself until you get 8 minute miles

trust me you’re better than me and I made it. you’re doing tumbling classes, which helps (i can’t do more that a cartwheel and a somersalt). and btw, running two miles in 8 minutes is like not even possible so you’ve probably got that time wrong.

keep pushing yourself to run and condition everyday. I think if you only do tumbling once a week, even if u do get it, you will lose it in a short amount of time because one class will not get you any better. try doing some private lessons or do about 4 classes a week to get your backhandspring and keep it. Also, if they have any conditioning classes, DO THEM. If they don’t, try going to your local all-star gym if you have one.
GO JAG CHEER!!!

No, I don’t think theyll make you run 2 miles in 8 minutes, because that has nothing to do with cheerleading, except for maybe endurance. I suggest you switch to another smaller tumbling class so you can get more practice time in. It would also be beneficial to go to tumbling more than once a week. The only way youre going to get that backhandspring is by practicing frequently! It might help to to handstands or pushups (or handstand pushups against a wall) whenever you can because a good handstand and strong shoulders are the key to a great backhandspring.
