What can i do to make the JV cheerleading squad?

I’m in high school and i’ve NEVER cheered before. I’ve always wanted too. I couldnt try out this year due to scheduling problems, but i want to try out next year. We have a freshman squad, and jv, and varsity. I don’t want to cheer on the freshman squad next year, i want to be with people my own age. So what can i do to make sure i’m good enough for jv? I’m tall and thin and one of my friends told me i would be a good base. I am a freshman this year and i can do a cartwheel and that is about it. I am also hoping that cheerleading can bring me out of my shell little.
