How come people often don’t consider cheerleading to be a sport?
I’m a cheerleader and time and time again, people tell me that cheerleading is not a sport. We are athletes and cheerleading is not a easy as it looks. Cheer requires yelling, showmanship, tumbling, strength, dance skills, jumping, and much more. Give me your opinon. Do you think cheerleading is a sport? Why or why not?

During football games and basketball games, etc… I could see why its not considered one.
But.
During competitions between cheerleaders squads…
Now thats considered a sport to me.
Since they have judges.. and the fact that they have competition there makes it a sport to me.
But like I said, at basketball, football games, etc..
They are just cheering on their respective teams.

I suspect it has to do with the fact that people only see them at football games basically “acting pretty” and not really much else.
And most of those people don’t see the things like the competitions, the practices, etc. Cheerleading is a sport, requiring actual athleticism.
Its more of a sport than bowling or golf. And those guys are considered athletes. Now don’t get me wrong, I know golf requires strategy and an actual ability, as does bowling. But neither of those require actual athleticism. Cheerleading does.

To be honest, the most talented cheerleadings are better off going into gymnastics
I love cheerleading, however.
Idk.
I noticed earlier that yahoo hadn’t put gymnastics as a sport.
It is.
And cheerleading is too, it’s dancing, singing, yelling, and being awesome at gymnastics.
