It’s a sport.

no, Cheerleading is not a sport their is no score their is no winner. I would consider cheerleading more of an art, like dancing. and yes you may have competitions and tournaments in which their is a winner and a loser but so does poker and chess and neither of them are sports, they are games. Cheerleading is not a sport, it is an art.

It’s more a type of dance.

It is a sport. There is a hell of a lot more athletic ability than alot of things that are called sports these days.Like pool for instance.I love to shoot pool but I do not consider it a sport. Not according to ESPN.How about the poker craze???Since when is sitting around a table wearing sunglasses playing texas hold-em a sport???It is according to ESPN.Tell all the naysayers to go out and try flipping 20 feet in the air and not breaking your neck.It is a sport.

Cheerleading is a sport depending on how you look at it. If your doing competition cheerleading then yes it is a sport. If its just cheering for football/basketball teams then no thats not counted as a sport.

Cheerleading is an art and what it does is, it lifts the confidence and figthing spirit of not just sportsmen but all the people around you.
Its more than a sport, its kinda playing mind games also when you are dancing & kicking around but make sure you don’t hit anyone.

Well, dancing and cheering is a sport. But more to the artistic type, unlike football and baseball. Some people might think its not a sport, but it is, no matter how artistic it is.

It depends on the approach that you take. Competitive cheer is very athletic and requires a tremendous amount of coordination and discipline, so I would consider that a sport. However, many squads don’t do any of that; I have distinct memories of my own high school days, where the band knew the cheers better than the cheerleaders did! So if the squad’s activities revolve more around bake sales and standing on the sidelines looking cute, then that’s not a sport.

Cheerleading is most definatly a sport. At the school I went to it was practiced more than what basketball or any other sport was practiced. I know I didnt see any of the big basketball players in the gym at six in the morning practicing, but we sure was. So I think its something we work hard at and we do have a goal to achieve, which is entertaining the crowd and pumping up everyone and I think it is definately a sport!

My son is in Uni doing a degree in dance and he is also a cheerleader and definitely he thinks it is a sport as you can put your life at risk, its a very dangerous sport.
August 10th, 2008 at 1:10 am
I think it is but it’s a bad sport.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
cheerleading is a sport, because of the physical fitness you need for it and because of the competitions. it’s not an art like dance is, believe me I’ve done both.

cheerleading is a sport. if cheerleading was easy it would be called football. and as someone mentioned they said cheer had no score and no winner but yes it friggin does! first of all stop by a practice adn see how hard we work and even better go to a competition. theres a winner there and a score. der da der. it is hard work and def. a sport.

Okay, honestly, I feel sorry for all the people who say cheerleading is not a sport, because obviously, if you even tried to do 1/8 of the stuff the cheerleaders do, you would fall and be seriously hurt. Cheerleading requires strength, determination, and it can even be more dangerous than football. There are girls that are thrown way up in the air, and if they aren’t caught, they could really get hurt. There are cheerleaders that get hurt everyday, why do you think that in competitions, a lot of the girls have bandages on their knees, and legs, and wrists? Now, do you think that guys huffing around a field with a ball tackling eachother is more dangerous than throwing girls up in the air, and the base or spotter having the possibility of the flyer falling on them and they could break an ankle or a collarbone or even a ligament, and the flyer could have the possibility of the base or spotter not catching them and then falling on their head. Now you tell me, is cheerleading a sport? I think the ESPN rating of 52 on the 60 scale is incorrect, because golf is certainly not more challenging than cheerleading.
