How do you get permanent marker off of cheerleading shoes?

there old cheerleading shoes so I don’t need them or anything but I wanna start wearing them again but I let my friends sign my shoes but I didn’t realize they were using permanent marker….. I tried using nail polish but there is still alot left and the marker is on the fabric above your toes and I’m not sure I’ll be able to get it off.
