Do you think that cheerleading has become a viable sport?
Many people do not consider cheerleading a sport. I was told that it is not a sport it is a competition. Isn’t a sporting event a competition? My son and his wife are both coaches for UCA(Universal Cheerleader’s Association) they work hard and the young men and women they coach do some fantastic things. So, I wanted to see the general consensus as to whether or not people are taking it more seriously as a sport.
Bluntly Honest,
I agree with that. Cheerleading and beauty pageants are two completely different things.

i think that competative cheerleading is , but if you are cheering at your school then it isnt a real sport.

Beauty pagents are competitions too but are not sports. A sport can be a competition, but a competition does not have to be a sport.

according to that logic, then track wouldn’t be a sport either because you are competing for the best time. Cheerleading is definitely a sport now, it is sad how some people dont understand how hard the cheerleaders work, and how physically strong they actually are.

Yes, there are some compositions for cheer, I’ve seen them on ESPN2 and they tend to be judged based on tons of different factors. When I was younger I looked into being a male cheerleader, but after a tumbling accident (almost broke my neck on a failed standing back tuck) I lost the nerve to continue with it. Oh and before anyone gives me crap about “male cheer leader” do a double back standing tuck first, if you can do it talk crap … if not, shut up!

If competitive bodybuilding, which takes no athletic ability whatsoever, is recognized by some as a sport, then cheerleading would have to be as well.
